Preparing for Severe Weather: Keeping Our Shelby Township Community Safe
As your Shelby Township Trustee, I've seen firsthand the impact severe weather can have on our community. That's why I'm writing to you today about Severe Weather Awareness Week, happening March 15-21, 2026. This annual event is a crucial time for us to focus on emergency preparedness and staying safe during extreme weather conditions.
Here in Shelby Township, we're no strangers to heavy snowstorms, thunderstorms, and even tornadoes (sometimes all in the same day!). These events can be devastating, leading to power outages, property damage, and threats to personal safety. As your Trustee, I believe it's critical that we all understand the potential dangers and take proactive steps to protect ourselves and our loved ones.
One of the most important things you can do is create a personalized emergency plan for your household. This should include designating a safe room in your home to shelter in during a storm, stocking up on essential supplies like food, water, and first aid kits, and establishing a communications plan to stay in touch with family members. I encourage you to review the resources available on the Shelby Township website and the Michigan State Police website to help you build a comprehensive emergency plan.
Staying informed about severe weather conditions is also crucial. Be sure to sign up for emergency alerts and follow local news sources and the National Weather Service for the latest updates. As your Trustee, I'm committed to ensuring that our Shelby residents are informed and ready to face any challenges posed by severe weather.
By working together as a community, I believe we can build a more resilient and prepared Shelby Township, ready to weather any storm. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to me directly. I'm here to serve you and ensure the safety and well-being of all Shelby Township residents.
Let's keep our community safe, together.
