Defending Voting Rights and Election Integrity

As your Shelby Township Trustee, I'm deeply committed to protecting the integrity of our elections and ensuring that every eligible voter can participate freely and fairly. Recently, the Michigan Department of State has issued guidance that has sparked a heated debate, and I believe it's important for me to share my perspective.

The right to vote is the cornerstone of our democracy, and I firmly believe that we must do everything in our power to safeguard it. We have a responsibility to uphold the law and ensure that our elections are secure and transparent. These are complementary - the freedom to vote assumes that your vote counts with a full weight and isn't otherwise diluted by ineligible individuals casting ballots.

Recently, the Michigan Department of State has issued guidance that has sparked a heated debate on what information County Clerks can use to verify legal voting status. Our own Macomb County Clerk, Athony Forlini has championed the cause to ensure safe and secure elections. He's been matching potential jury pools against voting records, and finding non-citizens unlawfully registered to vote. But the Secretary of State's guidance says that using jury pool data to verify voter eligibility could be a violation of federal and state laws.

As your Trustee, I've seen firsthand the importance of this issue. I've heard from Shelby residents who are concerned about the integrity of our elections. I applaud the Macomb County Clerk's office and my friend Anthony Forlini fighting for citizens to have their votes count for the full measure.

I'm fully committed to upholding the principles of democracy and ensuring that our elections are conducted in a manner that is beyond reproach. I appreciate your continued support and engagement in the civic process, and I encourage you to stay informed and involved in the ongoing discussions around voter integrity and election administration.

Together, we can work to safeguard the foundations of our community and ensure that every eligible voter has the opportunity to make their voice heard!
